So, just how is Consolers of the Lonely? It’s good. Quite good. And is easily the better of the two Raconteurs albums so far. But the very things that made the band seem like it could be more than just another Jack White project aren’t emphasized in the way they need to be. The result is a seriously solid rock album with flashes of genre brilliance.

Mugam from  Azerbaijan – Mystical Songs
The mugam classical music of Azerbaijan (like the related Arabo-Persian maqam) is shaped by the complex modal system that bears the same name. The repertoire is played not only at weddings but also at aristocratic musical soirées.  It is performed with remarkable economy, requiring only a singer, a drummer, a tar player, and a performer of the plucked viola known as the kemanche.  The repertoire today comprises a dozen principal suites.  As classical poetry is a central element of composition, the voice is considered to be mugam’s most important instrument. A breathtaking range of vocal techniques, from exacting parlando to the most intense ornamentation, are employed to evoke the rich meanings of the texts. 12 th Century Persian poetry is also the source for the song, or ghazal repertoire, which is particularly strong in Azerbaijan . Their theme is generally about love, both sacred and profane.
This year the public is invited to discover one of the most talented representatives of the new generation of interpreters of mugam, Aygun Baylar, who is just 30 years old.  Daughter of a tar player, Aygun began her musical career at the early age of 7 when she learned to play the nagara (traditional Azeri percussion).  At 18 she was discovered by the musician Baylar Guliyev, who invited her to join his ensemble and became her teacher.  In honour of her late teacher, Aygun Humbatova changed her name to Aygun Baylar.  She completed her musical training at the National Academy of Music in Baku , and in 2002 the President of the Azerbaijan Republic awarded her the title ‘Artist Emeritus’.  In 2005 at Samarkand in Uzbekistan , Aygun won the international competition Sharg taranalari.

The traditional music sung by Ladysmith Black Mambazo is called ISICATHAMIYA (Is-Cot-A-Me-Ya). It was born in the mines of South Africa. Black workers were taken by rail to work far away from their homes and their families. Poorly housed and paid worse, they would entertain themselves, after a six-day week, by singing songs into the wee hours every Sunday morning. Cothoza Mfana they called themselves, "tip toe guys", referring to the dance steps choreographed so as to not disturb the camp security guards. When miners returned to the homelands, the tradition returned with them. There began a fierce, but social, competition held regularly and a highlight of everyone's social calendar. The winners were awarded a goat for their efforts and, of course, the adoration of their fans. These competitions are held even today in YMCA assembly halls and church basements throughout Zululand South Africa.
The name LADYSMITH BLACK MAMBAZO came about as a result of winning every singing competition in which the group entered. "Ladysmith" is the hometown of the Shabalala family; "Black" references the black oxen, considered to be the strongest on the farm. The Zulu word "Mambazo" refers to an ax - symbolic of the group's ability to "chop down" the competition. So good were they that after a time they were forbidden to enter the competitions but welcomed, of course, to entertain at them.
Their first album release for the United States, "Shaka Zulu", was produced by Simon Garfunkel and won the Grammy Award in 1987 for Best Traditional Folk Recording.

The group has appeared at festivals in Croatia, Slovenia, Belgium and the Netherlands, contributed to theatre productions (Shakespeare’s Hamlet, directed by Zlatko Vitez), films (Transatlantik, a feature film by Mladen Juran; Ciganjska, an animated film by Marko Meštrović and Davor Međurečan), and collaborated with musicians like Teta Liza, Lidija Bajuk, and Vlado Kreslin.
The Belgian-Dutch promoter ArteFacts included Cinkuši on their compilation album and 2003/2004 artist roster, as well as a January 2004 mini-tour together with Kimmo Pohjonen (Finland), The Waterboys (England), The Hothouse Flowers (Ireland) and other outstanding names on the music scene.
